Blast from past from my shed

i had seen some shots like this on T.V and got to thinking i might be able to do the same , i did not want to spend money on special gear so i worked out how and then made my own ( at no cost ) and after a few failed attempts it worked well !! pictures are a copy of old prints

HI PENSIONISTA GLAD YOU LIKED THEM I tried a couple of different ways and as i said i did not wont to spend money on special gear as it probable wont ever get used again. In the end it was so simple i could not believe it. The bulb is in a standed bulb holder , i made a steel pin to go into the bottom of the bulb holder sticking down about 3 ins. Then i made a small steel ring about 3/4 of a ins across it . A stand was made so that the bulb and holder sat on top of it with the pin in side the ring, when touched it rocked in its stand..A wire was fixed to the pin under the bulb, another to the metel ring so when the pin and ring touched you got a circuit THE .2 wires were then fixed to flash guns , so when pin and ring touched the flash fired !!. The bulb and holder were set up on my work bench about 4 ft from a vice , an air gun was clamped in the vice the bulb was moved to get the aim spot on for the bulb. the camera was on a tripod and set in the B position (to hold the shutter open as long as the button is pressed ) also a cable release with lock. When everthing was ready i loaded the air gun put out the shed lights !! ( total blackout ) opened the camera shutter with the cable release. fired the air gun and as the pellet hit and smashed the bulb it rocked on its mount makeing contact between the ring and pinunder the bulb makeing the flashguns fire and because the lens was already open the light of the flash made the pictures on the film. THE background was thick black carpet so that it would stop any flying parts . AS long as i remembered to close the camera shutter before i put on the lights i got a picture almost every time. YOU can move the ring close to or away from the pin this will very the delay after impact before the flash fires. main thing SAFETY KEEPING BEHIND THE AIR GUN !! I found this set up worked almost 100% when it did not it was always i had done something wrong !!. i hope you can understand this as i am not good at putting things in writing
