There is something about a real fire, it usually makes better viewing than the television and you just can't help staring at it as it becomes mesmerising.
The fireback featured in this open fireplace is of two torchbearers and was cast at Rayne foundry Essex. Even when the fire has gone out it gives of stored up heat for some time after.
For me though you just can't beat for warmth the blazing heat of the firebox on the footplate of a steam railway engine on a cold and frosty morning. Such as the ones shown taken on The North Norfolk Railway which runs from Sheringham to Holt and is a must for it's beautiful scenery, especially the view across to Weybourne village with the backdrop of sea and sky.
Summer days with ice creams at the seaside seem a far cry from the sea of snow now covering the playing field and Golf course when this time last year it was 15c.
I certainly won't be out planting roses today as was planned and will just have to put another log on the fire and curl up with the papers.
